This client is a leading medium sized Australia retailer and looking for a Senior Strategy Manager in Sydney to join their team. The person is to deliver the best customer experience possible by leveraging data and generating meaningful insights for customers. This includes creating relevant offers for customers and shaping the category and strategy and the company’s product offerings. 

Reporting to the GM Strategy, this role will: 

  • Work with other stakeholders to develop transformation efforts to shape strategies and create customer-focused results.  
  • Provide clear recommendations and guidance for category strategies to ensure these strategies are implemented. 
  • Execute successful strategies for category programs. 
  • Analyse customer behaviour, market trends, category performance, pricing, and supplier dynamics in order to identify opportunity zones.  
  • Use a combination of qualitative and quantitative consumer and category research to generate strategic insights which will be used in decision making.  
  • Use analytical tools such as category segmentation, clustering, range performance, and product optimisation to ensure that our decisions are data-driven and well-informed. 
  • Provide support to a variety of teams across the company.  
  • Help in providing training, development, and upskilling the team to ensure desired results. 

Key Qualifications:  

  • 4-5 years+ experience in strategy, preferably from a top tier consulting firm 
  • Depth of experience and knowledge of complex problem-solving  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills  
  • Ability to develop clear, compelling and high-quality storylines and presentations  
  • Demonstrated experience owning end-to-end large, complex projects to drive results  
  • Experience managing small multi-disciplinary teams to deliver successful outcomes  
  • Strong stakeholder skills and ability to act as strategic thought partner  
  • Retail and/or analytics experience preferred but not required

    This iconic brand in New Zealand is on the lookout for a Senior Strategy Manager in Auckland, New Zealand to lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams within the company and be able to understand and analyse market trends and key performance indicators. You should be able to evolve the company and drive growth within different crossfunctional teams. 

    Reporting to the Head of Strategy and Transformation, you should be able to develop initiatives to tackle issues as well as provide strategic governance in reporting and communication within the team. You should be able to influence and give commercial support across multiple functions.  

    Key responsibilities include:  

    • Lead and deliver a number of key strategy and transformation analyses and projects.  
    • Understand the market trends, performance drivers and dynamics, as well as an ability to identify any issues or opportunities.  
    • Provide support with strategy governance to the more junior team members. 
    • Help make informed decisions that lead to success.  
    • Break down complex problems, apply frameworks and develop effective solutions based on sound evidence.  
    • Challenge existing practices and status quo by leveraging insights, knowledge through relationship management. 
    • Ensure strategic initiatives are implemented and embedded effectively.  
    • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams, as well as support and mobilise cross-functional projects.  
    • Coach strategy associates/analysts to help them develop their skills. 

    Key Qualifications include:  

    • 5+ yrs of experience with minimum 2+ yrs within a top tier strategy consultancy, investment bank, or corporate strategy team  
    • Outstanding academic record and extra-curricular achievements; Strongly degree qualified 
    • Superb written and oral communication with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence at all levels of the organisation 
    • Comfortable leading teams in pressured situations  
    • Analytics and quantitative modelling; Highly proficient in MS Excel, Powerpoint, Thinkcell  
    • Self-starter and “can do” – easy to get along with, naturally curious, comfortable with ambiguity, enjoys getting things done  
    • Ability to manage and develop junior team members  
    • Consumer market experience and retail experience is an advantage but not essential

      Do you feel comfortable talking through your experience and taking people on the journey?

      I know it can feel awkward when someone says ‘Tell me about yourself or talk me through your experience?’ However, this is more important than you think.

      Your story should flow and give them a flavor of who you are and what you’ve done.

      💡Start from the beginning, (DO NOT start with current experience) what you studied and how or why you got into consulting, what industries you worked across, and what types of projects.

      💡Then give them an overview of each position you’ve had since then. You don’t need to go into specific examples here but you want to give the interviewer enough information to get a feel for your experience and then they can ask for specific examples themselves.

      💡Tell a story, make the interviewer feel like they traveled through that with you. Most people don’t know about consulting until someone taps them on the shoulder during university or while doing their MBA so it’s ok to say that. Make it personal. Did you start in law or engineering and found it wasn’t for you and wanted something more commercial and to understand a business more?

      Storytelling is so powerful, it engages emotions and creates a connection between you and the interviewer, making you more memorable and impactful.

      Personally, I love hearing someone’s story and why they have made the choices they have. Obviously, there is a fine line of talking too much so make sure you share the highlights and you can delve into more detail later.
