Reporting to the Strategy Director, as Head of Strategy in Melbourne/Sydney, you will be working in a pivotal role towards building and delivering the company’s long-term vision and growth ambitions. This is an important role that will have a significant impact on the company’s strategy, and you will have a direct hand in shaping its future success. 

We are looking for a talented individual who is familiar with the challenges that face the organisation and has a track record of being able to effectively navigate them. You must have a deep understanding of the issues they face and be able to communicate your ideas to people at all levels of the company. The successful applicant will need to be a logical thinker who can break down problems and develop solutions concisely. They must be able to work in a team-oriented environment, but also be bias to action when required. Finally, they need to be able to communicate with passion, energy, and intensity at the most. 

The right fit for this position will be intellectually curious with a desire to solve complex problems. They must be highly articulate and able to make convincing arguments, having a collaborative and empathetic work style. The successful candidate must also have a strong desire to help people and organisations succeed and be personally well aligned with the Cultural behaviours of the business. 

 

Day to day activities: 
 

  • You will be leading their team of strategists, providing coaching and guidance to all members of the team.  
  • You will also be responsible for contributing towards additional projects, including facilitating the acquisition of new clients.  
  • As a member of the leadership team, you will be expected to contribute to the wider operation and management of the strategy team. 
  • You will be a key factor in making prioritised recommendations that will flow through product roadmaps – and supporting execution where appropriate. 

The Team: 

The Company’s Strategy Team comprises of highly passionate and highly skilled strategists from Bluechip organisations and top-tier strategy consulting firms. They also have a sizeable analytics team which works closely with their strategists and the wider business. 

Qualifications/Experiences: 

  • You will have experience in a top tier strategy consulting firm at Senior Manager or Principal level.  
  • You will have demonstrated success in developing growth strategies for clients that are based on in-depth knowledge of the client’s business environment, market, and resources. 
  • You will be passionate about growth strategy and demonstrate excellent business acumen. 
  • You’ve worked on/led projects where the goal was ambiguous, the strategy uncertain, and the outcome unclear.  
  • You’ve shown that you can embrace ambiguity and uncertainty to achieve outstanding results.  
  • You’re motivated to become a global expert in online marketplace mechanisms and operations, and you’ve demonstrated that you can work with others to ‘get stuff done’.  
  • Your track record shows that you consistently deliver results with and through cross functional teams across markets.

    The Group Strategy & Innovation function supports all business units of the bank by developing the group’s strategic agenda and managing emerging risks.     As Team Lead, Group Strategy, you will be responsible for leading a diverse range of strategic projects across the bank.     As the lead of the Group Strategy team, you are responsible for:  

    • Developing and maintaining an annual and rolling medium-term strategic plan.

    • Working with Finance and People & Culture to monitor and report on progress and achievement of strategic plans.

    • Using insight and analytical support; you can build out unique, creative solutions that have a real impact within the organisation. 
    • Developing and fostering strong professional relationships with our internal and external stakeholders, while providing professional support and thought leadership across the business.  
    • Working closely with the lead of Innovation & Partnership, the person will be able to incorporate learnings from global Fintechs into our solutions, helping us stay ahead of the curve in this constantly evolving industry. 
    • Communicating recommendations in a clear and concise way that impacts the organisation as a whole.  
    • Managing all aspects of your team – recruitment, onboarding, day-to-day performance behaviors and continuous development – in order to provide the best possible service. 

    Job Qualifications  

    • A degree or post-graduate qualifications in a related discipline (Finance, Business, MBA), and/or 7+ years’ relevant experience from a top tier Management Consulting firm or 10+ years in a Corporate Strategy role providing strategic advice at an Executive and Board level Team Lead, Group Strategy 
    • A proven consulting toolkit with superior analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to incorporate innovative approaches in solving complex problems  
    • Strategic thinker with ability to look beyond individual issues to identify broader themes with wider-reaching impact  
    • Ability to structure, lead, and manage complex cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders at both senior and junior levels  
    • Ability to independently lead and manage projects with multiple workstreams, with proven leadership success over a wide variety of functional business problems  
    • Experience in facilitating discussions at senior executive level, with highly developed verbal and written skills and visual communications  
    • Highly developed decision making, negotiation, planning and organisational skills  
    • Proven leadership capabilities in managing and developing a team of high-performing strategy practitioners

      Key Responsibilities: 

      • Develop key data metrics and a dashboard to provide real-time, meaningful insights into our people-related data. This will allow us to make better decisions based on accurate information 
      • Provide regular reports that give a clear understanding of the flow of information on people metrics to the ELT, Board Subcommittee and Board. 
      • Collect data from a variety of sources in order to get a holistic view of employee engagement.  
      • Identify trends and patterns (e.g. recruitment, hiring practices, motivation, turnover, compliance with employment laws and regulations) and provide insights to leaders through reports/presentations. With this valuable information, leaders can make informed decisions about actions that need to be taken. 
      • Involve identifying and recommending reasonable short-term and long-term goals, milestones, and benchmarks for key performance metrics.  
      • Recommend policies and activities that will improve our organisational culture – including suggestions to attract and hire qualified candidates, motivate and retain employees, address staffing issues, and maintain legal compliance. 
      • Improve the quality and consistency of our people data reporting. This includes both standard reports within our HRIS system, as well as ad hoc reports that are generated from other associated systems. 
      • Responsible for undertaking scheduled and ad hoc reporting, using Workday datasets and data from other sources such as internal reports, compliance and government reporting obligations.  
      • Facilitate the implementation of projects and related initiatives. 
      • Work hard to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and best practices.  
      • Undertake scheduled and ad hoc reporting to the business so that you always have the latest information at your fingertips. 

      Background & Experience 

      • 3+ years working in management consulting with a top tier MBB firm or the likes of Kearney, Oliver Wyman etc.  
      • Prior experience in people, org is advantageous.  
      • 5+ years’ experience in a corporate environment  
      • Identify and participate in continuous improvement initiatives  
      • Good at diagnosing customer needs and finding a way to satisfy them  
      • Well-developed presentation skills and can handle multiple projects simultaneously  
      • Ability to adapt and manage change  
      • Ability to influence and advise major stakeholders

        • Ensure that individuals and teams are working together towards the company’s goals. You need to make sure everyone is aware of the strategy and has clear performance expectations. In addition, you should build, maintain, and drive improvements in process, tools, systems, and supporting capabilities – this will help your team be more productive and efficient. 
        • Manage projects and initiatives. You need to be able to provide unbiased feedback, remove roadblocks, and offer early support – all while keeping an eye on any potential interdependencies.  

        Background & Experience: 

        • Min 8 years of professional experience in Strategy positions in leading company or 4 years in senior position at a leading consulting firm (McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Kearney, Oliver Wyman etc.) 
        • Regular and direct exposure to senior leadership teams 
        • Experience in project management and execution 
        • Commercially savvy and ability to interpret and analyse sales data, identifying key trends and opportunities 
        • Ability to use insights & data to pull together a plan with recommended outcomes
